Alphonse Traverse, 44, pleaded guilty Wednesday to manslaughter in the June 12, 2021 death of RCMP Const. Shelby Patton.
Breker said the pair were using methamphetamine en route, and when they got to the town, they stopped near a hotel, waiting for it to open with a plan to play the VLTs inside.
“At that point, Mr. Traverse turned to Ms. Pagee and said ‘I can’t,’ ” Breker told court, noting that Shelby reached into the truck to prevent the man from starting the truck’s engine.The men struggled for control of the vehicle and Shelby was carried some 25 metres as Traverse attempted to flee.Article content
