“Wow, consistency is remarkable for a potential snow event down to the Gulf Coast! In my last 20 years forecasting in Louisiana and Alabama,” WTVY News4 Chief Meteorologist David Paul posted Saturday morning.

DOTHAN, Ala. -South Alabama could see several inches of snow next week, impacting travel and disrupting utilities.

Rarely--really rarely---do dynamics line up to produce a winter storm like this in the lower part of Alabama and the Florida panhandle. However, forecasters have become more confident in their predictions, which would also impact Georgia and other states. The effects of snow and other freezing precipitation are concerning, and the situation worsened because local governments lack adequate resources to deal with these weather conditions.

Everyone intently watches the forecast as schools contemplate handling the threat, with a briefing on Sunday afternoon. Government officials and likely everybody else wonder if this could be a once-in-a-lifetime event. The forecast doesn’t invite travel, which could impact roads Tuesday afternoon and beyond. Utility services will almost certainly be interrupted.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
