The personal details of more than 190 patients being treated at a Melbourne Hospital may have been accessed during a data leak.

Cyber security experts carried out a forensic investigation which revealed the personal details of 192 people may have been affected.

"The Women's is thoroughly investigating the attack and has put in place actions to ensure that affected patients receive accurate information and adequate support," a spokesperson said. "It is important to note that there has been no breach of the hospital's official email or IT systems."Those are safe and secure in the Women's electronic medical record system."Sylvia, a patient whose details were exposed, said she has been involved in a couple of data leaks but this one hits hardest.

"They were able to confirm at this stage what information has appeared on the dark web, but they said there's no guarantee that it won't appear in future," she told Melbourne radio station 3AW. "My health records are safe in the hospital vault essentially but a lot of the other details have been leaked."
