The Rangers legend reckons Steve Clarke's men can get their Nations League campaign off to a great start
Scotland and Rangers hero Ally McCoist says games against Poland and Portugal are a great chance for Steve Clarke ’s side to ‘relight the fire’.
Scotland are back in action at Hampden this evening in their UEFA Nations League qualifier against Poland, for the first time since exiting the European Championship group stages in Germany in the summer. He told talkSPORT BET: “Scotland went out of Euro 2024 with a bit of a whimper, so these two games are great opportunities for Scotland to relight the fire.
“A lot of emphasis is put on passion, and I get that, but it would be good to see Scotland play with their heads as well as their heart, and regain a bit of pride.” Clarke’s side were optimistic, heading to Germany, but lost 5-1 in the tournament opener to the hosts, drew 1-1 with Switzerland, and exited with a late 1-0 defeat against Hungary.“The opening game against Germany was always going to be tough. They were terrific, and Scotland got a bit of a going over.
“The Switzerland game was miles better, and I’d say the Scotland team could have won it, but the Hungary game was a massive disappointment to me, given the way we went about it.”“Steve Clarke should approach Scotland’s UEFA Nations League campaign with a bit more belief,” said McCoist.“If I had to predict the result for Thursday’s fixture, I’d say that Scotland will beat Poland 2-1 in a close affair.
