DAP and Amanah say Anwar Ibrahim should be the first choice for PM candidate and Shafie Apdal next.
PETALING JAYA: DAP and Amanah say the opportunity to become prime minister should be given to Warisan’s Shafie Apdal if PKR president Anwar Ibrahim fails to get sufficient support from MPs to topple the Perikatan Nasional government. In a statement, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, who previously stuck to Pakatan Harapan’s original stand to name Anwar as their prime minister candidate, said the reality was that winning the next general election alone as PH or without Warisan and Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s faction would be difficult.
“The way forward is to allow Datuk Seri Anwar the first opportunity to form government and if he fails, then Datuk Seri Shafie should be afforded a similar choice, both based on the solid support of 109 MPs.”
