The counter-drone system features a 1.7 kg warhead with a fragmentation cutting disk-type charge that can down a UAV even with a near miss.
EDGE, a defense technology company based in the United Arab Emirates, has a new addition in its counter-drone arsenal with the Allag-E electric interceptor. Allag‑E is a ground-to-air counter-drone interceptor.
Essentially, the system is a drone with a 700mm wingspan and a 900 mm length. Its dual electric ducted fans cutting-disk warhead allows it to soar through the air and hunt down other drones, like an eagle catching lesser predators. The compact, high-speed system was designed to tackle the fastest drone threats today. It was showcased at the Dubai Airshow 2025, which took place from November 17 to 21.Allag-E: A next-generation counter-drone aircraftEDGE has recently announced a new layout for the Allag-E electric interceptor, a NextGen Defense report reveals. The system features an all-composite airframe with a cylindrical fuselage and delta wings. Winglets extend from either side of the wingtip, while electric ducted fans are placed symmetrically, above and below the tail. According to EDGE, this new design allows for better maneuverability and drone engagements. The Allag-E has a maximum takeoff weight of roughly 8.5 kg . This means it is compact and maneuverable enough for low-altitude operations. The aircraft can fly at speeds exceeding 250 km/h .It can engage targets up to 15 km away, flying at speeds of up to 200 km/h and at altitudes reaching 3,000 meters . It also delivers a lethal blast radius of more than 5 meters with 10-meter accuracy. The modern emergence of drone warfareThe Allag-E interceptor was designed to counter a wide range of drone threats, including reconnaissance drones and unmanned aerial vehicles .The anti-drone aircraft carries a 1.7 kg warhead fitted with a fragmentation cutting disk-type charge, as well as a proximity sensor. This allows it to destroy targets even in near-miss scenarios. The new design reflects the evolving nature of modern warfare, with attack drones now ubiquitous in ongoing conflict zones. In May 2024, Ukrainian military officials stated that “drones kill more soldiers on both sides than anything else.”This change has led to great concern over the challenging nature of drone defense. Last month, the US Marine Corps announced it was going to deploy a new handheld counter-drone system prototype on the battlefield. The Marines also announced they would place a renewed emphasis on air defense training for ground troops. Earlier this year, during a panel on Marine Corps modernization at the Navy League’s annual Sea, Air, and Space Exposition, Lt. Gen. Benjamin Watson, head of the Training and Education Command, said that the US “may never fight again with air superiority in the way we have traditionally come to appreciate it.”
