The brand will disappear from the High Street as B&M renames the 51 shops it has bought
All 400 Wilko branches across the country will close by the start of October, according to the GMB union. The move would mean all 12,500 staff losing their jobs. It comes after a deal to buy 300 branches of the shop fell through.
In a statement, Mr Putman said: "It is with great disappointment that we can no longer continue in the purchase process for Wilko having worked with administrators and suppliers over several weeks to seek a viable way to rescue it as a going concern. B&M has said it will take on up to 51 of Wilko's 400 shops in a deal worth £13m. The BBC understands that the stores will be rebranded as B&M shops.
“We are incredibly sorry to have to share the devastating news that PwC have confirmed the previous offer being explored for the sale of hundreds of stores as a going concern has fallen through,” the union said.
