“For a big lead, we had a lot of drama tonight,” Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said. 'But we got it done.”

, has slashed .324/.447/.676 in his first 37 MLB at-bats. He fell a triple short of the cycle in Wednesday’s 15-5 win over the Boston Red Sox; against the Cleveland Guardians last weekend, he made two diving catches in the outfield, one in left and another in center. His plate discipline has been the best among all Texas hitters since he debuted on Sep. 8.

He sparked a four-run sixth inning with a leadoff walk — in which he laid off three balls just outside the strike zone — and a stolen base. He scored on a fielder’s choice groundout from Nathaniel Lowe, who later scored on a bases-loaded walk from Jonah Heim.Heim’s walk was his fourth this season with the bases loaded; the Rangers as a team have walked 18 times with the bases loaded, more than any other team in baseball.

“It’s patience,” Bochy said of the Rangers’ bases-loaded approach. “It’s not getting too hyped up in the moment, too excited. Keeping that calmness up there, and make them throw strikes.” Dunning pitched a shutout through five innings and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth before a Cal Raleigh three-run home run in the sixth inning made it 8-3. Chris Stratton replaced him and allowed an inherited runner to score on two singles and a walk before starter-turned-reliever Andrew Heaney came on to record the final out and two more scoreless innings.
