All permitted events on Sundays at Peck Park in San Pedro will be canceled for the rest of the summer, after some 50 rounds were fired over the weekend, leaving two people dead and six wounded, officials announced at a town hall in the park on Tuesday night.

Permitted events still can be held at the park on Saturdays, Dedmon said. She described the decision to halt the Sunday events as a compromise, because officials did not view the cancellation of all weekend events as an acceptable option. More upcoming events at the park had been scheduled on Saturdays than Sundays this summer, she added.
Edward “Nova” Davis, an organizer with the league, said no one working with them had been involved in the shooting. The league has been receiving permits to host games at Park since 2018 and was in good standing with management, Michael P. Signorelli Recreation, Pacific Region Facility Director for the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, said during an interview Monday.in initial reports to dispatchers. Three people who were there to watch the game were among those hit, Davis said.
In an effort to restore the public’s sense of security at the park, and apparently signaling plans for an increased police presence in the area, the LAPD will host a backpack giveaway at the park on Saturday.
