The fire was first reported around 2:35 a.m. at a house on the 11700 block of 92nd Street Southeast, which is just south of US 2. The person who initially called 911 told dispatchers they woke up to an explosion, according to Bill Scherer, battalion chief for Snohomish County Fire District No. 4.
Crews made an “extreme effort” to get inside the second floor to search for those reported missing. Scherer said firefighters on the second floor faced “extreme heat” and that the hose line was ineffective to put out the fire. While crews were on the second floor, other firefighters made entry on the first floor of the building.
Scherer said four water tenders from neighboring departments were called to the scene because there were no fire hydrants in the area that were usable. Scherer said 35 firefighters from multiple departments responded to the scene along with 17 fire department apparatuses.
