6 Cosmic Entity/Shadow The Cosmic Entity in The Empty is another example of Collins playing alternate characters in a scene with the original Castiel. After Castiel is awoken in The Empty, he encounters the Cosmic Entity, and it takes on his form, sparking a conversation. This character is a grouchy, all-powerful being with a distinct voice and mannerisms, again highlighting Collins' ability to use accents and body language to create entirely new personas.
Emmanuel, a mild-mannered healer, remembers he's Castiel when Dean and the demon Meg enlist him to smite demons in order to help Sam, who is in a psych ward after his psychological wall broke. This sparks a reunion between Dean and Castiel with the former handing the latter his famous trenchcoat again. Dean ultimately forgives Castiel, suggesting his return was to set things right.
