Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee have worked together on several occasions, but some of their numerous collaborations are better than others.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Samuel L. Jackson and Spike Lee have worked together several times over the course of their respective careers, blending their signature styles of comedy and drama to create some of the most entertaining and timely movies of the past few decades.
School Daze School Daze might not be the strongest collaboration between Jackson and Lee, but it’s a huge leap forward from Oldboy. The movie follows a group of friends at the historically-Black Mission College, where a hierarchy soon begins to form regarding methods to deal with the social order of the students. It’s littered with fascinating commentary about race, education, and the experience of youth while maintaining a level of comedy that keeps things light from start to finish.
The story itself follows a group of female activists who protest against violence in Chicago’s Southside. It challenges the ideals of sex, race, and politics around the world. Like many of Spike Lee’s best movies, Chi-Raq draws on contemporary tensions in America to forge a story that’s just as entertaining as it is topical, raising important questions about the modern world.
Mo’ Better Blues Mo’ Better Blues isn’t quite as politically charged as Spike Lee’s works usually get, but it features an incredibly fun story about the professional conflicts between a group of jazz singers and the owner of their club. It might lack the power and punch of works like Chi-Raq or Jungle Fever, but on a purely entertainment level, it’s undeniably one of Lee’s best. The movie hit 71% on Rotten Tomatoes, proving just how much fun audiences had with it upon release.
