From director Fede Álvarez, the ninth entry in the 'Alien' franchise stars Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced.
This image released by 20th Century Studios shows Cailee Spaeny, left, and David Jonsson in a scene from " Alien : Romulus." CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Somewhere along the way, the “ Alien ” franchise became too complicated and pretentious. “ Alien : Romulus” — the seventh entry in the original series — means to right the ship by recapturing the spirit of the original.
By following a familiar formula — assemble a crew with a strong female lead, throw in an android sidekick, trap them on an alien-infested ship and see who makes it out alive — director Fede Alvarez succeeds. But this isn’t strictly a nostalgia play as Alvarez and a talented young cast breathe new life into a saga that needed it.
