The Alief Neighborhood Center opened its doors Saturday to hundreds of community members during the city of Houston's open house event.

Hundreds of Houston residents attended the city of Houston's open house event and surrounded the $58 million center at 11903 Bellaire as school bands, McGusty and a mariachi provided musical entertainment. Born in West Palm Beach, Fla., McGusty moved to Alief in the late ’70s and remembers playing basketball at what many in the neighborhood called the"old Quillian," now the home of the Alief Neighborhood Center.The newly built Neighborhood Center has 70,000 square feet and sits on a 37-acre urban site. The center features a skate park, outdoor pool, athletic courts, and sports fields for soccer, baseball and softball.The center is also home to the Houston Public Library’s David M.
