'I’m going to come in from the first day and show everybody what I’m all about.' Ali Gaye (unos1_) chatted with JustinM_NFL about moving to the United States from Gambia, playing at two JUCO programs, his pass-rush arsenal, and so much more. NFLDraft
is a 6-foot-6, 265-pound piece of moldable clay. With nearly 34-inch arms, Gaye possesses every physical trait necessary to develop into a double-digit sack artist at the next level. Gaye enters the 2023 NFL Draft as a three-year contributor at LSU.
The mannerisms are just different. I didn’t fit in. That’s how I felt in the beginning. I didn’t fit in. I didn’t know how to communicate. People act differently in social settings. It was just different from what I was used to. Ali Gaye: My JUCO experience was different. I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. I just knew it would give me a chance to move on to the next level, which was a D-I program.
Nobody was there to hold your hand and support us. I was very fortunate because I had a family that was looking out for me. They called me every day to make sure I was doing okay. Even though I wasn’t really thinking too much of it at that moment. I don’t know if I even realized how crazy it was. I never took a moment to realize I was all alone.
Ali Gaye: I’m still working on improving my pass-rush arsenal. I’m not yet a finished product. I’ve gotten some miles in this game, but I’m still learning. I haven’t been here too long. I’m still growing and getting better. They might have the same length as me, but I know how to explode and use length to my advantage. I can always create separation. When it comes to rushing the passer, I can use my long-arm stab. Power and length help me get to the quarterback. Separation is the biggest thing with me. I have a natural advantage. I lose using power and speed.
Implementing your will on an offensive lineman is so beautiful, especially a 330-pound lineman. I love letting him know what I’m all about. Nope, you’re not going to move me around like I’m a baby. This is a grown man’s business. I’m going to get my hands on you and set the edge. I’m not the one.
