Beverley’s energy helps put Minnesota into the first round of the playoffs and forces his former team into an elimination game.
It should be no surprise at all that Patrick Beverley put his own personal stamp on Tuesday night’s first game of the NBA’s play-in round, the game that sent the Minnesota Timberwolves to the playoffs for the second time in 18 seasons and forced his former team into an elimination game on Friday night.
Remember, the last image the Clippers had of Beverley as a teammate was the tumultuous Game 6 against Phoenix last June 30 in L.A., the night he shoved Chris Paul from behind and was tossed from a game that had already gone off the rails, a WWE-style ending to what had been a gritty, inspiring postseason.
Remember, at 6-foot-1 Beverley guarded 6-foot-10 Kevin Durant during a playoff series with the Golden State Warriors in 2019 and acted like it was the most normal thing in the world. Whatever he says, it’s best to at least act as if you believe him. He made an off-balance 3-pointer that appeared to beat the 24-second clock and give the Timberwolves the lead, except that the officials went back to the video after the next stoppage of play and discovered he didn’t beat the shot clock after all.
