Alex Toohey is a skilled basketball player with the potential to be drafted in the second round. Although his jump shooting has been inconsistent, his other strengths are noteworthy. At 6-foot-7 and 200 pounds, he possesses the physique of an NBA wing and has demonstrated solid team and individual defense in the NBL since 2023. He excels at cutting, ball movement, running the floor, and offensive rebounding. Toohey's basketball IQ is exceptionally high.
He started the season strong from beyond the arc, shooting over 40 percent on more than four attempts per game. However, his shooting performance has declined significantly throughout the season. Across 16 NBL games, Toohey is shooting 42/30/66 on 2.8 three-point attempts and 2.6 free throw attempts per game. His shooting accuracy has worsened in each quarter of the season, raising concerns about his consistency. Additionally, there has been a noticeable decline in his three-point volume. While he initially took four attempts per game, this number has steadily decreased to 1.25 attempts per game in his last four games.
