“I thought that was so strange because my No. 1 was to find out who killed my sister and Paul,” Proctor testified as Murdaugh cried at the defense table several feet away. But after the 2019 boat crash, Proctor said, the Murdaugh family struggled under media and community scrutiny. Maggie even began staying at their beach house in Edisto, South Carolina, to get away from the spotlight, she said.
