Alex de Minaur has suffered a fresh blow just days after missing Australia’s initial squad for the Davis Cup finals. Battling a hip injury that has kept him out of all but one tournament since July, the Aussie No.1 on Friday withdrew from the upcoming Shanghai Masters. Another extended absence is all but certain to end de Minaur’s hopes of making the lucrative ATP Finals showpiece for the first time. The world No.
“He’s going to do everything to get back as quickly as possible,” Hewitt said, adding the pair were still working through a recovery schedule. Instead it looks as though de Minaur has been forced to shift his focus towards getting fit for the 2025 Australian Open. De Minaur has reached the quarter-finals at the French Open, Wimbledon and US Open — but never at the Australian Open, giving him plenty of motivation to shake off his hip injury once and for all.
