Dusty Baker is managing his position players with knowledge that they got fewer innings...
Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman reacts after hitting a home run off of Los Angeles Angels Ryan Tepera during the eighth inning of opening day at Angel Stadium on Thursday, April 7, 2022 in Anaheim.ANAHEIM, Calif. — Alex Bregman received a planned day off on Saturday as the Astros try to protect their third baseman following a shortened spring training.
Bregman hit a home run in each of the team’s first two games in Anaheim, but manager Dusty Baker stuck to his pre-series plan for Bregman’s buildup. Bregman has a history of soft tissue injuries, including a strained hamstring in 2020 and a quad issue last season that sent him to the injured list for 70 days.
Baker is managing his position players with knowledge that they got fewer innings in Grapefruit League play than normal. Houston played just 14 spring training games and had no split squads to get players more innings. “ moving around great, but it’s important we get all these guys through April,” Baker said. “If we play 10-12 games, that’s just the end of spring training, really. We have to keep an eye on them.”More Astros News
