U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas will join our lineup for a one-on-one conversation Friday with Laura Barrón-López, the White House correspondent for “PBS NewsHour.” The discussion will focus on the border and the department’s work protecting us from the threats we face.Their conversation is at 5:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6, at the Paramount Theatre.
Mayorkas was sworn in as homeland security secretary in 2021. His 30-year career includes working as the United States attorney for the Central District of California and as a lawyer in the private sector. He served as the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security from 2013-16, and as the director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services from 2009-13.
