Alec Baldwin is set to play a fictionalized version of himself in Hollywood Heist in his first movie after his Rust shooting charges were dropped.
Following his dropped involuntary manslaughter charges for the tragic Rust shooting, Alec Baldwin will star as a fictionalized version of himself in a new comedy movie. In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and writer-director Joel Souza were accidentally shot from a gun Baldwin was holding during an on-set rehearsal. Hutchins later died from her injuries, leading to multiple criminal charges for various members of Rust's cast and crew.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT After over a year of dealing with the legal fallout from the Rust incident, Deadline has brought word that Baldwin has landed his first new movie with the comedy caper Hollywood Heist. Starring alongside Nick Cannon, Tara Reid, Paul Sloan, Til Schweiger and Mickey Rourke, Baldwin will play a fictionalized version of himself.
Baldwin's Recent Case Updates Explained Since the fatal shooting on the set of Rust, Baldwin has maintained his innocence, stating that he had never pulled the trigger of the prop gun that killed Hutchins. However, an official report from the FBI contradicted Baldwin's claims, leading to criminal involuntary manslaughter charges against the actor in late January. Baldwin subsequently pled not guilty to all charges and intended to fight a potential prison sentence in court.
More recently, criminal charges against Baldwin were officially dropped by the prosecution, stating that they "cannot proceed under the current time constraints and on the facts and evidence turned over by law enforcement in its existing form." This likely stems from further investigation into the 1880s era prop gun that found the weapon could have been fired if modified. As a result, the charges were dropped by the new special prosecutor team without prejudice.
However, charges for Rust's armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed remain with a preliminary examination set for August 7-16. Although her attorneys remain confident her charges will be dropped in the future, Gutierrez-Reed appears to face a tougher battle in the courts as she held the most responsibility regarding the safety of the film's firearms while on set.
