The Operation Southern Slow Down campaign ends this Sunday, July 21.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Alabama State Troopers are working overtime to keep drivers safe.ALEA’s main goal is simple: For people to slow down and stay safe. This year, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reported a decrease in traffic deaths from this time last year. While that decrease is good, ALEA said continuing to educate the public is one way to discourage speeding.
”With people speeding, you increase your possibility of being involved in a traffic crash,” ALEA Trooper Kendra McKinney said. “Sometimes you can be seriously injured or it can be fatal. We conduct concentrated enforcement details where you will see a heavier presence of law enforcement agencies on those interstates and major highways like at your Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee, line.
“As adults, if you have younger teens that are driving in the vehicle with you -- they’re watching what you’re doing and it’s learned behaviors. So you don’t want to try to pass on bad habits, driving aggressively, being reckless, being distracted, not wearing your seatbelts,” McKinney said.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
