The eventual Hall of Fame first baseman/designated hitter has three years to go on his $240 million mega deal worth $87 million dollars. He has 633 homers, 3,082 hits and is nearing another milestone with 1,982 RBIs.

Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols lunges for a fair ball along the first base foul line against the Seattle Mariners in a spring training game at Tempe Diablo Stadium last week. Albert Pujols has the Los Angeles Angels in a very tough spot. He signed a 10-year, $240 million contract as a free agent prior to the 2012 season. And despite diminishing returns, he intends to fulfill every minute of it, he told Boomskie on Baseball in an exclusive interview a few days ago.

The twin milestones were certainly bright spots in a season when Pujols slashed at .245/.289/.411 with a .700 OPS and the Angels finished 80-82 for the second consecutive season. And he gets a pass in both cases. In 2013, Pujols played only 99 games because of plantar fasciitis in his left foot. The Angels outbid the St. Louis Cardinals after they defeated the Texas Rangers in a seven-game World Series when Pujols was still at the top of his value. To get him, owner Arte Moreno had to sign Pujols as a player for 10 years, plus another $10 million for personal services for 10 years after his playing days are over.

Shifting from the no DH league was certainly a good move for Albert, whose career might be over now if he had no other option but to play first base.
