Communities in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau and other places around Alaska are preparing to hold a series of “No Kings” protests on Saturday.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Residents in Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau and other major communities around Alaska are preparing to hold a series of “ No Kings ” protests Saturday against perceived authoritarianism from the Trump administration, part of alists 22 scheduled protests in Alaska on Saturday.
It is the third wave of “No Kings” protests since Trump took office for his second presidential term over a year ago. They talk about what their desires are for ... the change we want to see.” Among the issues that are front of mind leading into the protest are the controversial release of the Epstein files, Immigration, Customs and Enforcement actions, the current war in Iran, and Rogers called “the continued overt corruption in our federal government.”as the center of the protests because the state was subject to “some of the most horrific, sadistic behavior you can imagine” from the Trump administration. President Donald Trump reacted to previous “No Kings” rallies last year by insisting “I’m not a king” and saying attendees were “not representative of the people of our country.” In response to the planned protests, White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson told Alaska’s News Source that the “only people who care about these Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions are the reporters who are paid to cover them.” In Fairbanks, the protest is planned to center around Cushman Street, where they have been held in the past before moving to Pioneer Park more recently. Rogers said organizers chose the Cushman Street location for the abundance of downtown parking and to avoid interfering with a scheduled Easter egg hunt being held at Pioneer Park. According to Rogers, the event is also being used as a fundraiser to collect cash and socks for Bread Line Inc., which runs a soup kitchen in Fairbanks. “I think what makes Fairbanks special is that every time that the Fairbanks populace wants to come out and host these protests, we make a real concerted effort to bring mutual aid into the equation,” he said. Rogers invites anyone with opposing viewpoints to come out to the event for honest and respectful dialogue. “That’s all what America is about, is the freedom of speech,” he said. “It’s great for the community for people to feel comfortable with having their voice be heard, and I wouldn’t want to dissuade anyone for having that opportunity for them as well.” The protests in Fairbanks, Juneau and Anchorage are scheduled to begin at noon, with the Anchorage event happening at Town Square Park, and the Juneau event planned for Overstreet Park. ‘Every fiber of me wishes I could change it all’: Veteran musher posts tribute to dog who died during IditarodJudge denies bail for Anchorage attorney feds say was part of ‘cartel’ accused in federal drug case
