Construction has begun on the Alaskan Way Safety Project, a transportation project aimed at enhancing safety and accessibility on Seattle's central waterfront. The project, expected to be completed by summer 2025, will reduce traffic lanes on Alaskan Way to two, one in each direction, to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety. Upgrades will include walk signals, cyclist-specific signals, no turn on red signs, and enhanced crosswalks. A protected bike lane will connect Waterfront Park Promenade and Bike Path to the Elliott Bay Trail, providing a continuous route. The project is funded by Seattle's Levy to Move Seattle, along with contributions from the Puget Sound Regional Council and Washington State Department of Transportation.
