Alaska experienced a mix of dry and stormy weather in the days leading up to Christmas. The interior saw clear skies, while the Aleutian Chain and Alaska Peninsula were hit by strong winds and rain. Southcentral Alaska remained mostly dry but could see showers and snow over the weekend.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The week before Christmas saw dry and stormy weather in the Gulf of Alaska and over the Aleutian Chain. The interior experienced clear skies and a low sun angle. Clouds are increasing over southwest Alaska overnight, with a coastal flood advisory in place over the Kusko delta due to strong winds driving ocean water in.

The Aleutian chain and Alaska Peninsula witnessed wet and windy conditions, with peak wind gusts reaching 63 mph in King Cove and 62 mph in Perryville. Southcentral Alaska remained mostly clear and dry, but coastal areas could see showers, with a chance of snow over the weekend. Warmer temperatures are also expected along with the potential for snow. Coastal areas have a higher chance of precipitation Thursday and Friday. The winter solstice on Saturday could bring temperatures above freezing during the day. A front is moving east into southeast Alaska, bringing rain and snow, which will transition to snow pushing north towards Juneau
