Alaska is experiencing below normal temperatures in February due to clear skies and cold Arctic air. While the panhandle remains clear and chilly, snow is expected in the Northwest and Interior as a high-pressure ridge shifts south, allowing moisture from the west to move over. Southcentral, including Anchorage, will see sunshine after a chance of patchy freezing fog. The Kenai Peninsula, Susitna and Matanuska Valleys, Prince William Sound, and Copper River Basin will remain cool and dry. The Slope can expect colder weather to return after a slow warming trend.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - Temperatures are below normal as February gets underway, attributable to the clear skies and cold Arctic air. A winter weather advisory is in place along the Dalton Highway for blowing snow. In Southeast Alaska, winds are up, driving wind chill values down. Clear skies will maintain over the panhandle, as will chilly temperatures. A large ridge of high pressure is holding for now, but drops south in the next 36 hours.

This will allow moisture moving in from the west to transit over the ridgetop, bringing snow to Northwest and Interior locations. Southcentral is still in the sunshine zone, with Anchorage seeing a chance of patchy freezing fog early Tuesday, then clearing to sunshine.
