The incredible calendar year of Obed Vargas continues as the 19-year old Alaskan has been named an MLS All-Star.
“I am proud, obviously, to be there and to be recognized,” Vargas said to reporters before quickly diverting the attention to the club. “For me the most important thing is the team, that the team does well. I wasn’t like ‘oh I want to be an All-Star’ or anything like that, if it happens, great, but the most important thing for me is keep doing things well with my team and the rest will come.”
″He could’ve picked anyone in the league, he picked me and a few other guys," Vargas said. “I am honored, I am grateful for the opportunity and for the confidence he put in me. I don’t know what made him choose me, but I am just happy.” “Just enjoy,” Vargas said of the upcoming All-Star match. “See new faces, new teammates, see how guys carry themselves around the league, it would be a good experience for me.”
Vargas has started 19 regular season matches for Seattle, logging the second most minutes on the club with 1,670. Vargas, a former Cook Inlet Soccer Club member in Alaska, is a consistent presence in the midfield, contributing three assists and has converted 88 percent of his passes this season.
