According to the NGB, the intent was to standardize funding, identify gaps in resources, and use the data to request changes to Congress. After hearing the concerns from Alaska’s guardsmen, the state’s congressional delegation — which included Sen. Dan Sullivan, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, and Rep. Mary Peltola — lobbied the NGB to analyze the impacts the initiative would have on missions in Alaska.

“The National Guard Bureau’s decision to exempt Alaska from their fulltime leveling initiative and reinstate 80 fulltime positions ensures the Alaska Air National Guard’s continued support of Alaska’s operational missions,” the statement read.
