Alfred “Al” Ketzler Sr. of Nenana was a prominent figure in Alaska Native history.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks community is reacting to the death of Alfred “Al” Ketzler Sr. of Nenana, a prominent figure in Alaska Native history. Ketzler’s death at the age of 90 was announced Monday, September 12 in a press release from Tanana Chiefs Conference .
During his life, Ketzler was instrumental in the formation of TCC who also served as the President multiple times. He worked to halt land selections by the state in the 1960s, pending the address of the Native Land Claims.TCC’s Chief and Chairman Brian Ridley reacted to the news, praising Ketzler’s advocacy efforts, saying, “He devoted a lifetime to serving and working on behalf of the Alaska Native People. We are eternally grateful for his leadership and service, and our deepest condolences go out to his family and community.” The Fairbanks Native Association also sent out a press release mourning Ketzler’s passing and honoring his legacy including his time on FNA’s board.
