Published: Feb. 23, 2024 at 3:42 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - After a long week in Juneau, the Alaska House passed an omnibus education bill on the evening of Thursday, February 22.
Days of negotiations ensued, as it became clear that many in the House viewed this as the legislature’s chance to comprehensively tackle education early in the session. On Wednesday evening, a series of amendments came and went, some withdrawn by their sponsors, others voted down. It falls far short of what education advocates say is necessary due to a lack of substantial increases in the last 10 years, and high inflation over the last two.
