Mike Shower, R-Wasilla, who previously opposed a pay raise, expressed concerns about the excessive per diem allowances, which cover expenses like rent and groceries in Juneau. He argued that the cost of living in Juneau makes it challenging for average citizens to serve in the legislature and proposed relocating the legislature to a more affordable and accessible location.
