Wednesday marked the initial signing date for high school student-athletes heading off to play college sports next year, and a number of athletes from all over Alaska made their commitments to the next level.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Wednesday marked the initial signing date for high school student-athletes heading off to play college sports next year and a number of athletes from all over Alaska made their commitments to the next level.A state champion guard from Mountain City Christian Academy , Morgan Maldonado officially put pen to paper in front of friends and family Wednesday. The senior standout is heading to Division I’s Boise State women’s basketball program in the Mountain West Conference.
“This program has always had a winning legacy, so coming here you’re just expected to do well and succeed,” Maldonado said. “And so seeing other players, even players I have played with on the same team, go and play at the next level was super cool and gave me a pathway to follow and I believed in myself that I could do it, as well as they could.”
Jennifer Nash of Point Hope has been one of the top guards in the state, regardless of classification. Able to score when she needs to, Nash also distributes the ball at a high level and has been the anchor to Tikigaq’s recent success. In their four seasons together, Seibert and Sullivan appeared in four state title games. winning three of them.
