Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines are experiencing disruptions to “key systems” as a result of a global outage impacting Microsoft Azure.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines are experiencing disruptions to “key systems” Wednesday as a result of a global outage impacting its cloud computing system. On Wednesday morning, guests unable to check-in online were advised by the airline to see an agent at the airport for a boarding pass.
In a statement issued at 3:50 p.m. Pacific time, Alaska Airlines said its teams “worked quickly to stand up our backup infrastructure” to allow guests to book and check in online while minimizing disruptions. “We are bringing impacted systems back online this afternoon, with other services set to resume once Microsoft resolves the issue from its end,” the airline said. “We apologize for any inconvenience that our guests might have experienced today and appreciate their patience as we navigated this issue.”In addition, the effect of the outage spreads beyond just the airlines. Users have reported issues with Costco, Office 365 and Minecraft, among other services.
