ALL smiles halfway through a fortnight of intense international volleyball, Alas Pilipinas players are putting their game face back on after a brief celebration.
Members of the Alas Pilipinas men pose with Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richard Bachmann and Philippine National Volleyball Federation officials led by president Ramon “Tats” Suzara, secretary-general Donaldo Caringal, chairman Dr. Arnel Hajan, vice president Ricky Palou and directors Tonyboy Liao, Yul Benosa and Karl Jeffrey Chan II.
Thailand came up with victory over the hosts in the closing match of the weekend for a three-match sweep, while Indonesia took second place with a 2-1 record. “I’m very happy that our men’s team again got a medal after five years,” said Suzara, referring to the silver medal in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.Recent addition Buds Buddin made an immediate impact with Suzara also lauding Malabunga, Vince Lorenzo, John Paul Bugaoan, Gabrial Casana, Owa Retamar, Lloyd Josafat and Louie Ramirez.
“It’s also good our young players from the UAAP and NCAA are stepping up for the team,” said Suzara, adding that he hopes Bagunas could return to action soon. “Alas Pilipinas Women got two bronze medals already so we’re really stepping up. It’s a big improvement in our program. Our program is in the right direction.”THE podium place was a huge accomplishment for a country that struggled in the maiden staging of the league last year and comes less than two months since Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni arrived to take over this new selection of young and experienced players.
