PETALING JAYA: Dentists in the private sector have been experiencing a shortage in surgical face masks since the outbreak of Covid-19 in the country, says the Malaysian Dental Association (MDA).
The MDA council in a statement on Tuesday said a survey conducted among its members revealed that almost half of 2,500 private dental clinics in the country would run out of surgical face masks by the end of April.
"This figure is extremely alarming as dental practitioners and dental auxiliaries are constantly exposed to contaminated aerosols generated from most of the dental or oral cavity procedures in their healthcare facilities. MDA called on the government to ensure that the private healthcare sector was able to access PPE, especially surgical face masks, to ensure that the private sector could still provide services to Malaysians.
"Any disruption of the private healthcare system will directly or indirectly further burden the public healthcare system.
