Alamosa sheriff’s deputies shot at and injured an armed suspect attempting to flee law enforcement early Wednesday morning, sparking an investigation.
Justin Claude Trujillo, 28, fired a handgun at deputies before all three returned fire, striking Trujillo twice, according to a Wednesday news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.
The 28-year-old was later transferred to a Colorado Springs hospital, where he is stable, CBI officials said. The three deputies involved in the arrest have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation, CBI officials said in Wednesday’s release. The driver, now identified as Trujillo, attempted to elude police in the car and drove over a grassy median into a residential area in the 1200 block of Alamosa’s 3rd Street, where he got out of the SUV and ran from deputies on foot, according to CBI officials.
