The deputy was hospitalized in the Nov. 10 crash.
Prosecutors have charged an Alameda County Sheriff’s Office deputy with driving under the influence of alcohol following a crash in a county-owned vehicle last month, authorities said.
In court documents, prosecutors also charged Michael Ziller with driving while having a blood-alcohol contest of .08 or higher. Both of the charges are misdemeanors. Outgoing Sheriff Gregory Ahern ordered an internal investigation of the 10-year deputy following the crash and placed Ziller on leave. It was unknown early Wednesday his current status with the agency. The crash happened about 6:45 p.m. on Nov 10, after authorities said Ziller left a memorial for a colleague. He is accused of crashing a sheriff’s office truck.
Paramedics had to cut free Ziller from the wreckage, according to a Declaration of Probable Cause by California Highway Patrol Ofcr. Shawn Landers.
