Alameda's Indian community gathered Saturday at the Mastick Senior Center to celebrate Diwali, attracting more than 150 people of all ages dressed in vibrant traditional attire.Alameda police Chief Nishant Joshi lights a special lamp to start the Diwali festivities Saturday at the city’s Mastick Senior Center., the festival of lights, is a joyous celebration for Indians, symbolizing the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
The “Fruitvale Alive!” project will install a sidewalk-level protected bike lane, create a new connection to the San Francisco Bay Trail, widen sidewalks, install lighting and close two “slip lanes” at the south side of the corner of Fruitvale Avenue and East 12th Street .Park entry and parking will be free for active and retired military members on Veterans Day, this weekend on Saturday, at all locations of the East Bay Regional Park District .
As a big thank-you to all of their supporters, the USS Hornet museum’s management is making admission to the ship free to everyone all day Nov. 11. Visitors are encouraged to join Hornet staff for their ceremony honoring veterans at 11 a.m. and many other special events all day long.Here’s one more way to clean out the house before the holidays and get rid of stuff you don’t need, such as leftover paint, pesticides, old electronics, computers and expired medicine.
