The No. 2 Alabama Crimson Tide hit the road for the first time this season for a Friday night matchup at Mackey Arena to face the No. 13 Purdue Boilermakers. Alabama, fresh off its first-ever Final Four appearance last year, is a slight 2.5-point favorite.
I’m not sure Purdue should be the underdog at home. They’ve only lost once in the past 22 games at home. While Zach Edey played a major role in the winning record at Mackay Arena, the Boilermakers return three starters and are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation. Turnovers have been an issue for both sides. Alabama allows 14 points per game from turnovers, and Purdue will hurt them. The Boilermakers score 11.3 points from opponents' miscues, which should allow them to keep it close enough to cover.
Purdue may return some key personnel, but the Boilermakers' defense isn’t as stout as in years past. Purdue has had early turnover issues, and the uptick in tempo could give rise to the Crimson Tides 10 points per game from turnovers - that, and a big scoring night from Sears could lend to Alabama winning this game.
