“You can go to your county courthouse and go see your registrars and walk in and fill out a paper application,” he said. Allen said voters should be prepared to provide the required information. “We do require a verifiable Alabama driver’s license or a Social Security number to register to vote inside the state of Alabama,” he said.“You can go to your local boards of registrars in your county, in the particular county that you live in,” he said. “Now, you have to attest that you do not have any type of identification, photo ID, and you have to fill out some paperwork, but they will provide you with a free photo ID so you can go vote on May the 19th.” Even if voters think they are registered, Allen said they should check to make sure their information is current, especially if they have moved. “We maintain regular and robust voter file maintenance. We want to make sure that Alabama has the most clean and most accurate voter file in the country,” he said. “So if somebody’s moved, or whatever the case may be, make sure that if you’ve moved to go check at Allen urged voters not to wait until the last minute. “May 19th is the primary election, but May 4th, May 4th is the deadline to register to vote,” he said. Voters can check their registration status and find their polling location on the website by entering their full name and address. Before heading to the polls, voters may also want to research the candidates on their ballot.
