Storm chaser Ryan Cartee was in Selma Thursday as the possible tornado hit and recounted his experiences to Fox Weather. Cartee said he could see debris from the storm being tossed in the air as he tracked its path.
“I’ve meandered around the residential area just west of town and there’s pretty good damage over there as well. I was trying to weave in and out of power lines and all that. It appears it crossed right through the northern part of downtown, basically all the way up to the river. It was about a mile wide path. I was on it when it went through time, maybe about a half a mile from it.
Selma officials are asking people to remain at home and avoid the area as emergency responders arrive.Devastating damage in Selma, Alabama after a tornado moved through the town of 17,000 people.
