Nelson led the Tide on the stat sheet in this Sweet 16 clash, scoring a season-high 24 points while also accounting for 12 rebounds, 1 assist and 5 blocks. He played an integral part in the final minute for Alabama, converting an important three-point play with 38 seconds left to push the Tide to the lead then making up for two missed free throws in the final second of game time by blocking Tar Heels junior forward Harrison Ingram’s full court heave at the buzzer to seal the game.
Guards Rylan Griffen and Aaron Estrada each finished with 19 points and 4 rebounds a piece for the Crimson Tide, with Griffen adding one assist and Estrada adding three.
