Smith recalled the bar “was beyond packed.” And when Egan’s filled up, there wasn’t much room to operate. “We’re talking about the bar having to issue wristbands for entry,” heAgain, word eventually got out the show was happening. The bar filled to capacity before 10 p.m. and instituted a “one-out-one-in” policy. Dozens of people lined outside the door hoping one person would leave so another could enter. But only a few were willing to give up a spot.

Already on their way up, the Shakes did OK for themselves, too, since winning two studio albums and winning four Grammys. Brittany Howard went solo with her album “Jaime,” which netted a Grammy for Best Rock Song.
