Republican Senate candidate Mike Durant addresses the Republican Men's Club in Huntsville on Jan. 15, 2022. The last candidate into the race has soared into a commanding lead in Alabama’s Senate race.
Durant leads the Republican primary field with 32.8 percent of the vote, followed by Katie Britt with 22.9% and U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks at 11.7 percent. As for Trump’s influence in the race, the poll found 52% would be more likely to vote for the candidate he endorsed. Trump has said he will make an endorsement in the Alabama race but has not done so yet.
Candidates in Alabama also need to exceed 50% of the vote to avoid a runoff, otherwise the top two candidates would face off in the runoff on June 21.
