Alabama Representative Tracy Estes, facing domestic violence charges, has reached a settlement agreement with his wife. The agreement ensures the continuation of a protective order for two years while dismissing the charges against Estes. However, the charges could be reinstated if Estes violates the agreement's terms.

Alabama Representative Tracy Estes , a Republican from Winfield, has agreed to settle a domestic violence case stemming from an incident in September. According to court filings from January 9th, Estes' wife accused him of verbally threatening her after she locked herself in a bedroom during an argument. She alleged that Estes banged on the door and threatened to physically harm her if she didn't open it, an incident she claimed lasted for two hours.

She previously stated to media outlets that she feared her husband and that this type of behavior had occurred repeatedly during their marriage. The settlement reached in Marion County District Court stipulates that a protective order issued in September will remain in effect for an additional two years. In exchange for this, the charges against Estes will be dismissed. Any contact between the two individuals would constitute a violation of the protective order. The settlement outlines that if Estes breaches the agreement by violating the no-contact order or failing to complete the PEACE Program within the court-designated timeframe, the charges against him will be reinstated. It's important to note that the plaintiff or prosecutor retains the right to refile similar charges within the statute of limitations, which is one year from the date of the offense (September 2023). This means the charges could be refiled up until September 2025.

US Funding Withheld as WADA Removes US Representative from BoardUS Funding Withheld as WADA Removes US Representative from BoardThe World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has removed the US representative from its board following the Biden administration's decision to withhold major funding. The US cited a lack of confidence in WADA's ability to effectively combat the use of banned performance-enhancing drugs, particularly after the agency faced criticism for its handling of positive tests by Chinese swimmers. WADA, in turn, invoked its rules, stating that representatives from countries that haven't paid their dues are ineligible for board positions.
