Rep. Shomari Figures (D) is co-sponsoring the COVER Now Act, a bill aimed at providing health care coverage to millions of uninsured Americans. This legislation proposes Medicaid pilot projects, allowing the federal government to work directly with counties and cities to offer coverage to eligible individuals. The bill addresses the lack of state-level Medicaid expansion in some states, like Alabama, where over 300,000 people are unable to access quality healthcare.

) - Alabama Rep. Shomari Figures is co-sponsoring a bill that aims to expand health care coverage to millions of Americans who remain uninsured, his office announced Tuesday.

The Cover Outstanding Vulnerable Expansion-Eligible Residents Now Act would provide another option for states,“People across Alabama—both Democrat and Republican—have called for the state to expand Medicaid for over a decade. Because of the state’s refusal to do so, more than 300,000 people are unable to receive quality health care that they would have access to if the state expanded Medicaid,“ stated Figures.

For thousands of people in Alabama and millions nationwide, Figures is urging his colleagues to support the bill. It establishes Medicaid pilot projects, allowing the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to work directly with counties and cities to provide coverage for individuals who would qualify for Medicaid if their states chose to expand.

The COVER Now Act is endorsed by multiple organizations, including the American Diabetes Association, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
