“There’s a lot of work to do,” Fasking said. “We don’t know exactly what’s going to happen.”

) - Decatur immigration attorney Kimberly Fasking ’s phone has been ringing non-stop as immigrants are scared of what will happen when President -Elect Donald Trump is sworn in on Monday.Fasking said Trump ’s day one promise of mass deportation has immigrants in the Decatur area contacting her non-stop.

“Our phone has been ringing off the hook over the past two weeks, just with people wanting to get in and wanting to see us,” Fasking said. “Everybody is concerned. It’s a scary time for anybody who has not already become a citizen. Even if they are lawfully immigrants or if their paperwork is in order, people are nervous and I think rightfully so.”

Fasking said a majority of her calls are coming from immigrants here legally on work visas. Their main concern is whether those visas approved under the Biden Administration will no longer be honored under Trump, which is something Fasking says is a real possibility. “Renewing your Visa even if you do everything right, is not a sure bet,” Fasking said. “Oftentimes things are denied even for erroneous reasons.”

One man who shares the same concern is Dr. Celeve Izean, a Haitian pastor in Albertville who immigrated here over 30 years ago and has since become naturalized.“They are here legally and you say you’re coming for them, but what did they do? They are here on a Visa,” Izean said. “Immigration gave them paperwork, they have social security, they have work permits.
