At least two spots in Alabama had record high temperatures on Christmas Eve. Above is the forecast for Christmas Day, which may be just as warm.Christmas Eve felt more like spring than winter across Alabama on Wednesday.

Two observation stations in the state had record high temperatures, according to the National Weather Service, and several other cities came close to record highs as well. And though Santa is expected to come overnight, he won’t bring any North Pole cold with him. Temperatures are forecast to remain near record warm through the weekend. Birmingham had a high temperature of 78 degrees on Wednesday. That broke the record for Dec. 24, which was 77 degrees and was set in 1964.And the Shelby County Airport in Calera also set a record, although its records don’t go back as far. The high temperature at the airport on Wednesday was 79 degrees, which broke the record of 74 degrees set in 2016. It was 23 degrees warmer than average, according to the weather service.Temperatures across the state ranged from 15 to 24 degrees above average. Here are some other cities stats for Dec. 24:Huntsville: 74 degrees .Muscle Shoals: 77 degrees .Christmas Day could be just as warm across the state, according to the weather service. Highs are forecast to be in the low 70s across north Alabama on Thursday. Central Alabama highs are forecast to range between the mid-70s and the upper 70s.But it can’t last forever, and a changeover to cold is on the horizon. A cold front is expected to move through Alabama starting on Sunday, and high temperatures by Monday will only be in the 40s and 50s: It'll be chilly in the northern half of Alabama on Monday, and even south Alabama will have cooler temperatures.Leigh Morgan is an Alabama native.
